Suplementos Alimentares e Saúde: Evidência Científica, Segurança e Tendências Futuras

A procura constante de um estilo de vida mais saudável, com o objetivo de aumentar a longevidade e a qualidade de vida, está intrinsecamente associada ao aumento da procura e do consumo de suplementos alimentares. Estes produtos, ricos em nutrientes ou outras substâncias com efeito nutricional ou fisiológico, apresentados de forma doseada (cápsulas, comprimidos, ampolas, saquetas ou conta-gotas), destinam-se a suplementar ou complementar um regime alimentar normal. De forma geral, podem ser classificados em três categorias: vitaminas e minerais, plantas e extratos botânicos, fibras alimentares, prebióticos e probióticos, ácidos gordos essenciais e aminoácidos.
